Beautiful Sunset

We had another great sunset here in the Mojave Desert. It was amazing, even better than two nights ago.

El Mirage

I'm spending the weekend at El Mirage Dry Lake with Troy and family and other friends. It's a place to ride dirt bikes and quads and other off road vehicles. We had a very nice sunset tonight and I got this shot of Venus rising over a Joshua Tree.

Galleries and traveling...

Yesterday I returned to California, which I will always consider my home. It is 700 miles from Moab, so I split it into two legs, stopping in Las Vegas for one night. I'm home to take care of vehicle maintenance and to have a meeting with a friend who is opening a new gallery. I'll be hanging some prints in the Beacon Hill Gallery in Norco, CA. Grand opening is set for March 9-11th.

Arches National Park, not just arches...

I've been shooting in Arches National Park for the past few days. Didn't have internet online to post, so I've got a few images to share. One thing people may not know about Arches is that the landscape is more than arches. There are buttes, spires and other land forms to be found. The moon has been near full, so I have been trying to include it in my photographs. The second image is Delicate Arch. It is reached by a moderately strenous 1.5 mile one way hike. The last shot is Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park. Arches and Canyonlands are very close to one another and when you are in the area, you should visit both.

Sad Day...

Today was a very sad day. I had to put a dog I have had for nearly 10 years to sleep. Dutchess has had serious hip problems for a while. She was in constant pain and had difficulty getting up. It was our vet's professional opinion that her quality of life was very poor. We rescued her from a shelter about 9 years ago. We were never sure of her exact age, but she was probably close to 14. She lived a good life and was a great dog. I'll never forget how when she was younger, she loved to run and play in the sprinklers. She was a sweet dog and was always kind to everyone she met. She will be missed.

Arches and Snow

I went to the windows section of Arches National Park at sunrise this morning and found snow lingering near Turret Arch and North Window Arch. There are thousands of arches in Arches National Park. The visitor's center has a computer where you can search and view many of them.
